Shirley Allen
On Monday 8/3/09, our beloved friend, sister and classmate Shirley Allen passed away. Shirley had been ill in the weeks prior, but had made it out of the hospital and seemed to be on the road to recovery. Many of us saw her in the days before her death and she was as always: full of life, laughter and wearing a vibrant smile.
Shirley has been with our family and group for more than 10 years. She has been a "staple" in the Sassy Ladies class ever since they gave themselves that name. For those of you who know her, you'll remember her awesome stage presence. Martha often used Shirley as the ‘example’ of sharing what’s in your heart, on your face. She was always up for any shows and represented our group with the grace of a hula dancer and a heart full of aloha. She was a sister to so many of us and a friend to all. We know how much she loved our group because we'd meet people along the road in life that had heard of us, thru her. She was proud of her group, this additional family she had created at No Te Here.
Our time with Shirley on this earth may have ended, but our love for her remains in the memories we share. We come together each week: kids and adults, families and friends from all every corner of this valley. We may not all share familial bonds, but the relationships we create here in our No Te Here family are just as strong. Malo au pito, for sharing your lives and love with all of us.
If you would like to share a thought, a passage, or a favorite memory of our sister Shirl please do so!
